Show as new top ?

Display --> Show as new top

What's its purpose? When I click it the layout disappears. How can I return to former state?

    Is does what it says: it will show the selected cell as top cell without the cells it is embedded in. By clicking at it, it will basically disable all layout expect the layout of your selected cell plus it's child cells.

    You can return to the previous state with Display->Previous State (or Shift+Tab).
