Visible box can't be selected - has no properties

A box with black outline appeared in my top cell. When I try to delete it by selecting it, I receive an error message: "No object with properties to display."

How do I get rid of it?

    Problem solved. I saved and closed the file. When I re-opened it the mysterious box had vanished.

    Did you by chance hide a cell? In that case that cell's bounding box will be shown instead of the cell itself.
