In my opinion, updating to a newer version should be a conscious decision. Otherwise a release of mine might break thousands of installations and I don't want to take that responsibility. KLayout is an offer, and it is up to you to decide if you want to take it or not. I will not give any warranty, not even an implied one in a sense that newer versions are better.
There are other aspects - network security, curated enterprise installations, third-party offers etc. There are strong arguments against automatic updates.
