Number of layers supported in oasis files

edited April 2016 in KLayout Support
I imported an oasis file with a large number of layers (> 200) and it seemed to merge data from several layers onto one layer. The same file came in as a GDS ok. I like the oasis format because it suppports alpha layer names and is more efficient. Is there a setting that I need to change for when I open / import files?

    Hi norrisc,

there is no limitation in the OASIS reader regarding the number of layers. Virtually the layers are unlimited. Merging is not supposed to happen.

Beware of one topics regarding OASIS: in OASIS, the primary layer identification still happens through numerical layer and datatypes. The names are just decoration. So maybe your OASIS files did contain 200 layers with different names but same layer/datatype numbers? In that case, the reader will merge the layers with identical layer/datatype numbers.

If that is the case: I wonder how it can come to his, but I cannot rule out this possibility. For example, scripted layer generation may lead to such a faulty layout.
