Ruler graduations?

When I place a ruler I see numerous "ticks" and one endpoint label.

Often I would like to just make an over-long ruler and (say)
stretch ("partial") an edge to an intermediate point on the ruler,
stretch another edge to another point (like building up nested
objects to groundrule limits).

However none of the "ticks" receive a label, so it's impractical to
use in this way. Unfortunately this way is my "muscle memory"
habit (because it happens to be efficient).

Besides which the "ticks" seem to change their spacing as I zoom
in and out, and keeping them fixed to a distance-between would
be handier, at least if I wanted to finger-count N of them I'd know
what they were.

I'd like to ask for an input or settings option (or, input field that
defaults to a setting?) which will place ticks on that spacing and
label them each w/ distance. Or even "minor tick" unlabeled,
and every Nth "tick" labeled. That'd be two fields I guess. It'd be
neat if you could ignore the popup and click, click, having the
last-set values "sticky". Maybe a side "use default settings" to
get back to default if you play around.

Is this practical? Is it already done only I don't know where the
switch is?

  • No, sorry that is not done yet.

Es well as the fancy multipart rulers - still on my TODO list which magically does not get shorter :)
