On my Mac, KLayout 0.23.2 starts in editing mode by default and a .gds files can be opened. I see the full design. However I can not select any of the objects. What are I am doing wrong?
first of all, 0.23.2 is not the latest version - but lacking hardware to fully support the Mac platform I am depending on the Mac community to provide binaries.
But I don't think the problem is related to that version.
There are some configuration options which could cause that effect. You can try whether some configuration option causes the problem by renaming $HOME/.klayout to some other name and starting KLayout in editor mode explicitly (klayout -e). KLayout will start with the default configuration and that should enable selection of shapes and other objects.
Configuration options influencing the selection behaviour are for example
* "Select top level objects only"
* Selection style (color, stipple, ...)
* Selection catch distance
If that does not work I can just guess. Maybe the you use a layer properties file which has all layer set to "invalid"? "Invalid" layers don't participate in the selection.
