Feature Request: New Layout: New *Layer*
When generating a New Layout (from scratch), we are prompted for a TopCell name.
I understand that only the required info for a valid GDS file is included in this panel.
In practice, however, one also needs a new Blank Layer.
Please consider a option (eg. checkbox) in the "New Panel" Dialogue that allows the user to also specify a new Layer when the layout is generated. Also please select this new layer.
This would circumvent the repeated popping up of "please select a layer!" warnings when users start a new layout from scratch.

You mean like this?
Small convenience feature, but makes sense for starting some small sketch layouts.

I guess it could look something like this, with default values pre-filled.
There is a pull request with this feature implemented here: https://github.com/KLayout/klayout/pull/741
Just awaits merge.
